Automatically Identifying Vocal Expressions for Music Transcription
نویسندگان
چکیده
Music transcription has many uses ranging from music information retrieval to better education tools. An important component of automated transcription is the identification and labeling of different kinds of vocal expressions such as vibrato, glides, and riffs. In Indian Classical Music such expressions are particularly important since a raga is often established and identified by the correct use of these expressions. It is not only important to classify what the expression is, but also when it starts and ends in a vocal rendition. Some examples of such expressions that are key to Indian music are Meend (vocal glides) and Andolan (very slow vibrato). In this paper, we present an algorithm for the automatic transcription and expression identification of vocal renditions with specific application to North Indian Classical Music. Using expert human annotation as the ground truth, we evaluate this algorithm and compare it with two machinelearning approaches. Our results show that we correctly identify the expressions and transcribe vocal music with 85% accuracy. As a part of this effort, we have created a corpus of 35 voice recordings, of which 12 recordings are annotated by experts. The corpus is available for download 1 .

Automatic singer identification of popular music recordings via estimation and modeling of solo vocal signal
This study presents an effective technique for automatically identifying the singer of a music recording. Since the vast majority of popular music contains background accompaniment during most or all vocal passages, directly acquiring isolated solo voice data for extracting the singer’s vocal characteristics is usually infeasible. To eliminate the interference of background music for singer ide...
متن کاملAutomatic Detection and Tracking of Target Singer
In this paper, we investigate the problem of automatically detecting and tracking a specified person’s singing potions within a music recording with multiple simultaneous or nonsimultaneous singers. This problem reflects an important issue in multimedia applications which require transcription and indexing of music data in response to the increasing demand nowadays for content-based information...
متن کاملFurther evaluation of methods to identify matched stimulation.
The effects of preferred stimulation on the vocal stereotypy of 2 individuals were evaluated in two experiments. The results of Experiment 1 showed that (a) the vocal stereotypy of both participants persisted in the absence of social consequences, (b) 1 participant manipulated toys that did and did not produce auditory stimulation, but only sound-producing toys decreased his vocal stereotypy, a...
متن کاملAutomatic transcription of Turkish microtonal music.
Automatic music transcription, a central topic in music signal analysis, is typically limited to equal-tempered music and evaluated on a quartertone tolerance level. A system is proposed to automatically transcribe microtonal and heterophonic music as applied to the makam music of Turkey. Specific traits of this music that deviate from properties targeted by current transcription tools are disc...
متن کاملMusical Acoustics and Speech Communication: Musical Pitch Tracking and Sound Source Separation Leading to Automatic Music Transcription II
This paper describes research aimed at building ‘‘active music listening interfaces’’ to demonstrate the importance of music understanding technologies, including sound source separation and F0 estimation, and the benefit they offer to end users. Active music listening is a way of listening to music through active interactions. Given polyphonic sound mixtures taken from available music recordin...
